How to watch the Liga MX Apertura 2024 semifinals: times, channels, teams

Four teams have qualified for the semi-finals of the Liga MX Apertura 2024, which begins on Wednesday and continues until the weekend.

So far the tournament hasn’t fared well, with three of the lower seeded teams exiting the quarterfinals. Cruz Azul will face CF América in one semi-final and Atlético de San Luis will face Monterrey in the other.

This is what the schedule looks like this week:

No. 5 seed Monterrey beat No. 4 seed Pumas 1-0 on Thursday on a Sergio Canales penalty and then bounced back with a 5-3 win in the second leg on Sunday, with a second-half win scored four goals. Guillermo Martinez and German Berterame each contributed two goals, the other scored by Ignacio Pussetto.

Atletico San Luis, the No. 6 seed, defeated Tigres, the No. 3 seed, 3-0 on aggregate. San Luis scored all three goals in Thursday’s first game, two of which came from Vitinho and Leo Bonatini. There was no score in the second meeting on Sunday. San Luis continues to surprise. The team remained undefeated at home and went without two consecutive losses all season.

América, the No. 7 seed, knocked Toluca, the No. 2 seed, out of the tournament with two 2-0 wins. Rodrigo Aguirre scored two goals in the second half of Wednesday’s first game, assisted by Brian Rodriguez. Henry Martin scored one of America’s two goals in the second game on Saturday, one that saw them score both goals again in the second half. América is the reigning, back-to-back champion.

Cruz Azul, the No. 1 seed, came off the mat in the quarterfinal match against Club Tijuana. Cruz Azul, which lost the first leg 3-0 on Wednesday, scored goals in the first half and two in the second half and won the second leg 3-0 on Saturday, winning in a tiebreaker. Two of those goals came from Ignacio Rivero and Angel Sepulveda. Cruz Azul went into the playoffs as favorite and number 1 after a record season. Martín Anselmi’s team finished the season with the best attack, the best defense, only one defeat and a new points record in a 17-game season.
