How will Idaho’s partially passed “abortion trafficking” law affect Bend Planned Parenthood?

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Earlier this week, Idaho’s abortion trafficking law was passed by a federal appeals court, allowing the state to punish those who harbor or transport a minor to obtain an abortion out of state without parental consent .

The law was originally passed in 2023, but the state was soon sued by pro-choice advocates and lawyers, saying the law violated the Constitution. The original law made “soliciting, harboring, or transporting” a minor for an abortion and concealing it from her parents or guardians a felony punishable by two to five years in prison, regardless of whether the procedure occurred in a state in which abortions are protected.

Planned Parenthood in Bend is the only clinic east of the Cascade Mountains, making it the only option available to people in Idaho. Last year, the clinic saw a 1,000 percent increase in Idaho patients seeking abortion care.

So how might this new law impact those seeking care in Oregon? Isabella Warren addresses pro-life and pro-choice advocates for a report on NewsChannel 21 on Five tonight.
