Huge emergency service effort after the car overturned and landed on its roof

A car overturned after an accident which prompted a massive emergency response in Oldham this evening. It happened just before 8.30pm in the village of Dobcross, Saddleworth.

There was a two-vehicle accident on Sugar Lane. An eyewitness said a car overturned and crashed into a parked car. Rescue workers, including police, paramedics and firefighters, rushed to the scene.

Pictures showed that the car was left on its roof. A person, who the witness reported was a man, had already climbed out of the vehicle before emergency services arrived. They were taken to hospital in an ambulance. However, their injuries are not said to be serious.

The road has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident. The car is currently being recovered.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8.20pm this evening (Saturday November 30), firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Sugar Lane in Oldham

“A fire engine from Mossley Community Fire Station attended the incident quickly, which involved two vehicles. One injured man was able to free himself before arrival and was taken to hospital by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service.

“Emergency officers worked with Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing the scene after approximately 70 minutes.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed no one was seriously injured and said the vehicle was being recovered.
