Husband of missing Virginia mother charged with murder – NBC4 Washington

A grand jury on Monday indicted the husband of a Northern Virginia mother missing since July on first-degree murder charges.

Previously, Naresh Bhatt was only accused of hiding the body of Mamta Kafle Bhatt. He also faces criminal charges for physically defiling a corpse.

Investigators found blood in their home, cadaver dogs revealed signs of a corpse and video showed him throwing trash into various dumpsters, prosecutors say.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on August 2, two Manassas Park police officers went to the Bhatts’ home after receiving a call from their employer about her failure to show up for work.

On body-worn camera footage, Bhatt told officers that his wife had left the house, destroyed her phone and indicated that she was headed to either New York or Texas. He told officers the couple had plans to separate.

He was friendly towards the officers and told them that his wife lived somewhere else.

Police believe that Mamta Kafle Bhatt was killed in her house and her body was dumped somewhere.

At a court hearing in September, prosecutors told a judge that there was evidence that Naresh Bhatt was seen placing garbage bags in dumpsters. They said police found a bloody bath mat in a bag of items donated to charity.

Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s disappearance sparked a major search operation and an outcry in the community as the mother missed her daughter’s first birthday.
