I-40 wreck on Airport Blvd near Morrisville closes lanes, SUV rolls over

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A driver was taken to a nearby hospital after an SUV rolled over in a two-car crash on Interstate 40 in Wake County Saturday night, officials said.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the wreck was reported along I-40 East at mile marker 284 near Airport Boulevard around 9:50 p.m.

The crash blocked all but the leftmost lane near Morrisville for more than an hour.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when an Audi SUV and a Mercedes car were both traveling eastbound and the Audi collided with the Mercedes.

The Mercedes then crashed into the central barrier and landed on the side of the road. During the crash, a state trooper said the Audi SUV overturned and landed on its roof, facing the wrong way.

WAKE COUNTY NEWS

According to North Carolina State Trooper M. Garzon, the driver of the Audi was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries that were not considered serious.

Impairment is suspected in the crash, he added.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
