I once spent $500 at a chocolate shop while on vacation in Paris. My husband didn’t know what I said in French, but he guessed I had spent a lot when they brought me free chocolates.

You could say I have a problem with chocolate. Or you could say I have good taste. In any case, I really like chocolate and appreciate the finer versions.

So when I tell you that ALDI has a new baking chocolate that is absolutely fabulous, you know that I know chocolate.

What’s so great about ALDI’s Baker’s Corner Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Bar?

Baker’s Corner’s new Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Bar is just what you need this holiday season if you love chocolate and love to bake. A 4-ounce bar of this 60 percent cacao chocolate costs just $2.49, which is a great bargain. Additionally, this chocolate is Rainforest Alliance certified and its ingredients – such as chocolate, sugar and cocoa butter – are easy to understand.

Baker’s Corner also has a new unsweetened chocolate bar in the same size and price. So if you need unsweetened chocolate, this is also a really fantastic product at a great price.

But for my baking needs I need semi-sweet. If you just taste it, it is sweet and soft but not too sweet. At 60 percent cocoa, it’s a little darker, but not that far from milk chocolate, making it perfect for most chocolate baking needs.

  • Price: $2.49 for a 4 ounce bar

  • Why I like it: The chocolate is a bargain, made with simple ingredients, and is great for all of my holiday baking projects (and beyond!).

How I like to use ALDI’s new baking chocolate

The first baked goods I made with it were brownies for my son’s Spanish class. They were having a party and he said he wanted to bring brownies. (They don’t have a Spanish flavor or theme; he just wanted brownies, and that was fine with me.)

We tested a New York Times cookbook recipe and oh, these brownies were divine. His classmates loved them and my husband was upset that there were brownies in the house that he couldn’t eat. Our son promised to make him another batch after I went to ALDI.

This chocolate would be perfect for chocolate mousse, cake, or French Silk Pie, and I think it would rock a chocolate ganache. I would also be a great chocolate for making truffles – and I have made a lot of truffles. If you also have a craving for chocolate, it will satisfy that need too.
