I can’t get over Ryan Reynolds’ 19 different Deadpool and Wolverine movie ideas

It’s kind of unbelievable that Ryan Reynolds came up with 19 different ideas for this Deadpool 3 before he and Marvel finally came to an agreement Deadpool and Wolverine. It goes without saying that the immense success of Deadpool and Wolverine is proof that the right decisions were made in the end. After a considerable success in the cinemas Deadpool and Wolverine It ended up grossing $1.3 billion worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing superhero films of all time and breaking the record for highest-grossing R-rated film – a distinction previously held by it joker.

Of course, that’s not really a surprise. The money-spinning nostalgia was clearly piqued by Wolverine’s starring role alone, but it was certainly spurred even further by the countless cameo appearances in this film Deadpool and Wolverine. I find it crazy to think that this success was thanks to Hugh Jackman’s holiday epiphany, which led to a call to Reynolds in which Jackman expressed his enthusiasm for making what he called “Wolverine and Deadpool“Film. Before that fateful phone call, Reynolds and other Deadpool filmmakers were in the pitching process Deadpool 3 Disney ideas.

Ryan Reynolds proves he’s an “idea machine.”

Compiled: The Making of Deadpool and Wolverine was released simultaneously on Disney+ Deadpool and Wolverine and shows how the threequel came together through behind-the-scenes clips and interviews with filmmakers. Ryan Reynolds and executive producer Wendy Jacobson were among those interviewed, with the latter revealing that she was during the pitching process she believed “Ryan had 19 to 20 ideas and threw everything at the wall.“While Reyolds’ passion for the character and his franchise makes me inclined to believe her, the fact that he made so many suggestions is crazy to me.

Kevin Feige also mentions in the documentary that Ryan Reynolds ”
an idea machine
.”

It’s unclear how many pitches are normal for a new MCU film, but That Reynolds achieved even the low end of this estimate is a testament to his commitment. Since these pitches were made for the first Deadpool film to be officially part of the MCU and Disney’s official cast, there would undoubtedly have been additional pressure to ensure the character could integrate appropriately. On the other hand, Reynolds’ own comments on the many ideas suggest that he really threw everything at the wall.

In his interview, Ryan Reynolds mentioned just one of the ideas he had in the earliest stages Deadpool 3Development: a $4 million Sundance-style film that features Deadpool in his suit but no action sequences. He also mentions that in addition to the toned down Sundance film He made more small to medium-sized films that were obviously far more unremarkable than Deadpool and Wolverinewhich was reportedly produced on a budget of $200 million, according to The Numbers. Reynolds then states that he felt he would “Run the full rangeAfter each of his pitches, he made it clear that he blamed himself, not Disney, for their failure.

Wendy Jacobson, meanwhile, added two more ideas that the couple floated after rediscovering notes from the trial. These included a film that would essentially be a Thor: The Dark World remake before switching to another story in the middle and having a “Deadpool’s deleted scenes extravaganza in which it would have been revealed that Deadpool was present throughout the entire main MCU timeline. Considering Reynolds exploited so many unused ideas, the featurette feels like it is Deadpool and Wolverine was destined – especially after Jackman revealed that he felt the urge to call Reynolds at such a crucial moment.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s final story plan is even more impressive given all the unused ideas

Deadpool & Wolverine ended up being the best possible outcome

The coincidence of Jackman’s call is one thing – but the fact that Deadpool and Wolverine was the final product after Reynolds “Run the full range“ with so many others now feels even more impressive. While it’s true that the many cameos and moments of fan support played a large part in the film’s success, even drawing derision from some critics, there’s no denying that The film stands on its own. The film was the perfect love letter to the Marvel films of yesteryear and perfectly integrated Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU.

On the contrary, now that I know Reynolds’ ideas are getting stronger, I wonder if all of his other ideas should be given another chance now that he’s officially part of the MCU.

However, I’m not saying that Reynolds’ deleted scenes extravaganza and his later Sundance film shouldn’t be given a chance (although these might work best as parts within a larger film). On the contrary, now that I know Reynolds’ ideas are getting stronger, I wonder if all of his other ideas should be given another chance now that he’s officially part of the MCU. Only time will tell when Deadpool next appears – but after that Deadpool and WolverineIt’s an incredible success, I bet we won’t have to wait long.
