I use this golf watch every round and it has an excellent price on Black Friday

For most of my golfing life I never had a GPS watch, but now I can’t live without it. Leaving the house to play golf and then realizing I left my Garmin Approach S62 charging in the bedroom is a horrible feeling, rivaled only by forgetting a phone or wallet. I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but I’m totally dependent on it now…

I think it’s similar to the addiction we’ve all become to cell phones. People of my generation and younger never had a phone growing up and we got along just fine. But nowadays life without a telephone is almost unthinkable. It actually causes a mild form of panic, which sounds ridiculous, but you all know what I’m talking about.

As for golf, playing without a watch unsettles me and definitely affects the way I play. However, my trusty S62 keeps me safe in many ways. It is considered one of the best Garmin watches on the market. That’s why I think you should upgrade your exciting model this Black Friday!

One of the things I rely on the most is the automatic rangefinder. Many watches have this feature, but many require you to activate it manually, which is honestly a hassle because it’s so easy to forget.

As with the best golf watches, the S62 doesn’t require you to do anything – it does it for you. Essentially, you start your journey and as soon as you start walking, the watch measures the distance. When you reach your ball, you’ll know how far you hit it.

However, the reason this feature is so handy isn’t for seeing how far a ride has traveled. For me, the main function is to help me find my ball when I’ve missed a fairway. Once you know how far you are driving with the driver, the search area is massively narrowed down. When I don’t have the watch, that’s what I miss the most.

The S62 also allows you to scroll through the distances to all obstacles and layups and view on the touchscreen where your vehicle is expected to land based on your usual driving distance. Knowing how far forward it is or to a hazard or how far it has left to overcome is really handy, and not having that really puts me off and makes the shot more difficult. Knowing how far to hit doesn’t mean I’ll make the shot, but it at least removes the uncertainty.

The S62 also has a so-called pinpointer, which I might only use every few rounds, but it offers a real advantage over other watches. It’s basically a compass that points to the green. So if you’re approaching blindly or blocked by trees and need to smash over them, this feature is a godsend.

Virtual Caddy is a nice feature that recommends club selection based on data from previous rounds. If you sync your watch with the Garmin app on your phone, you can access it. This is one of the best golf GPS apps on the market. The “plays-like” feature takes into account slope and wind speed to show the distance to the pin.

Another feature I use all the time is the scorecard, which also allows you to record whether you hit the fairway or missed left or right. You can enter how many penalty strokes you had and how many putts you needed. All of this information is recorded and can be accessed by logging into your free Garmin account. There you’ll see all sorts of useful data like driving distance, approach accuracy, and putting stats.

There’s a lot more I could mention, but ultimately the only watch on the market that I think is better than the S62 is the watch that Garmin released as a successor – the Approach S70. However, there isn’t much difference between the two and the launch of the S70 simply means that you can get the S62 at an even cheaper price, so it’s definitely worth considering this Black Friday!
