“I warned that my brother’s murderer would kill again, and he did.”

The sister of a man beaten to death with a hammer said she warned parole officers his killer would strike again if he was released. Mel Huxley was speaking after murderer Brian Whitelock was found guilty of another horrific murder, this time of his friendly neighbor, after being released from prison for his first murders.

Whitelock, who was serving an 18-year life sentence for killing Mel’s 27-year-old brother Nicky Morgan and his own brother, murdered his defenseless neighbor in a brutal attack that left her mutilated. After deliberating for less than half an hour, the jury found him guilty.

Retired horse rider Wendy Buckney’s body was found covered in blood and face down on her living room floor in August 2022. She had sustained so many injuries that it was impossible to accurately count them. Whitelock, who denied murdering the 71-year-old, told jurors he expected to die in prison, adding: “I deserve it.”

The 57-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, but this plea was not acceptable to the prosecution and the matter was heard at Swansea Crown Court. The defendant represented himself in the trial after previously dismissing his legal team. After his sentencing on Wednesday afternoon, he shouted to the jury: “I hope you all suffer brain injuries.” The “disgraceful incident” prompted the judge, Mr Justice Griffiths, to order his removal from the dock. Now Nicky’s sister has revealed that she warned probation officers that he would “make a categorical, 100 percent guarantee that he will murder again.”

Mel Huxley told MailOnline she objected to Whitelock’s release in 2019, a year after he breached conditions while being held in open prison, which included drinking alcohol and an “altercation” with a store security guard. The 52-year-old said the family had no objection when Whitelock was initially sent to open prison at the end of his sentence for murder and manslaughter. But after the incident with the security guard, they became worried.

When his full release was being considered in 2019, she said: “My last words to the parole board were that I will categorically and 100 percent guarantee that he will murder again and that we will come back here. And that’s what we did.”

A later review found that unless he relapsed into alcohol and drug abuse, “the likelihood that he would cause further harm was assessed as low” and was released in November 2019.

Asked for her reaction to the news that Whitelock had killed for a third time, Ms Huxley added: “I thought I told you.”

Whitelock’s nieces also said: “He’s evil – there are no other words for him.” Read more here.

Prosecutor Christopher Rees KC said it was the Crown’s case that Whitelock, who lived opposite his alleged victim on Tanycoed Road, murdered a vulnerable woman in a “sustained and vicious attack”. He said the defendant had a long history of drug addiction and a “propensity to use unlawful, explosive and extreme violence.” Miss Buckney suffered more than 70 injuries and her flesh was found on the walls and ceilings of her home.

The trial heard how Miss Buckney moved into her flat on Tanycoed Road, Clydach, in 2018 and was “very popular” with her neighbors. The defendant moved into an apartment opposite Miss Buckney’s in 2019 and did “odd jobs” for her. Miss Buckney’s sister was worried about Whitelock being at her sister’s apartment, knowing he had been in prison before but not knowing for what. Mr Rees said Miss Buckney’s response was: “Everyone deserves a second chance.”

Mr Rees said although Miss Buckney lived alone and had mobility issues, she was still able to get around and at 6.30pm on August 22 she was seen driving her Land Rover on the Parked on the street and went into her apartment. Almost an hour later, the defendant crossed the street and went into her apartment. Whitelock was not seen leaving the property until the next morning, when he left the property in his underpants. The lawyer said a neighbor spoke to the defendant and Whitelock said, “I killed Wendy.”

The Parole Board was contacted for comment.
