On January 22, 2023, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Lewiston on a report that a 14-year-old girl had run away. The girl’s father reported finding social media messages between the girl and Currie. The chats were sexual in nature and included nude photos of the girl.

Officers obtained a search warrant for Currie’s phone. They found several nude photos of the teenager. The images were exchanged while the defendant was reportedly living in his vehicle in both Utah and Idaho.

A week later, officers received a second report of a delayed sex offense. A 15-year-old girl reported that Currie enticed or coerced her into sexual relationships three times.

Officers interviewed Currie during the investigation. He reportedly admitted to having sexual relations with both girls. An affidavit said he was “addicted to young girls and needed help.”

During Monday’s court hearing, defense attorney Cameron Cox said Currie suffers from mental health issues. He explained how his client was struggling at the time the crimes occurred because his grandmother had passed away.

Cache County Assistant Prosecutor Joshua Nemeth acknowledged that attorneys were not asking for a prison sentence of more than a year. However, he said the defendant was a predator and did not understand what he did.

Currie told the court what he did was “totally wrong.” He said he was sorry for what he had done.
