Idaho senators introduce bill to define man and woman – LocalNews8.com

WASHINGTON, DC (KIFI) – Idaho Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch join two other Republican Senators to introduce the Defining Male and Female Act of 2024.

It would legally define male, female and gender to ensure they are based on biology and not ideology.

“Women in Idaho and across the country have stood up for fairness, access to scholarships and safe athletics. It is time for Congress to do the same,” said Senator Risch in a new press release. “The Defining Male and Female Act is a necessary step to protect the rights and opportunities of our daughters and granddaughters.”

“Men and women have biological differences that need to be acknowledged. Women and girls deserve to feel safe and respected in all public and private spaces,” said Senator Crapo.

This is the latest move by Washington lawmakers to target the transgender population.

Last week, Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina proposed a resolution banning transgender women from using the women’s restrooms in the Capitol.

It was in response to the election of the first openly transgender woman to Congress, Representative-elect Sarah McBride of Delaware.

A day later, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced a new rule banning trans women from women’s restrooms.

Crapo and Risch said the bill would restore:

  1. The legal right of girls and women to gender-segregated sports and scholarships.
  2. Gender segregation in toilets, locker rooms, dormitories, prisons and shelters for victims of sexual assault.
  3. Recognition of the objective difference between men and women, mothers and fathers.
