I’m shocked. One of the best films of 2024 is about the election of a pope, but I’m glad it’s streaming now

I’m still putting together my best list Film releases 2024which partly means I have to catch up on films I missed. That’s why I’m thinking back to some of my favorites from earlier in the calendar, including director Edward Berger’s well reviewed conclave. At the moment, not only am I still pleasantly surprised that this flick, considered one of the best films of this year, is about the election of a new pope, but I’m also happy that it’s now streaming for everyone to rent is available.

A good reason I enjoy streaming the film is that it makes my job a little easier, as going to the cinema is the only other way to relive the drama starring Ralph Fiennes. While I have no problem going to my local movie theater, there are other pictures I need to catch up on that only play on the big screen. Case in point: Mr. Fiennes will return to our local multiplexes this weekend with the epic adventure The returnand that is a title I carry seriously looking to catch before the year is out.

Before anyone asks, my fandom of James Bond films isn’t the only reason I like Ralph Fiennes’ work. I’ve considered him a consummate professional for some time now, as his resume has quite an impressive range beyond playing M and Voldemort Harry Potter Movies. So when the first trailers come out conclave appeared, this was the first vote cast in favor of this film.

Add in a supporting cast that includes Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow, not to mention a stunning supporting performance from Isabella Rossellini, and you’ve got plenty of fuel for what becomes a fascinating mystery about who really deserves it to be the head of the Catholic Church.
