Images of new Jaguar electric car leak ahead of official unveiling in Miami | Jaguar Land Rover

Leaked images of Jaguar’s much-hyped electric concept car have emerged hours before the model’s official unveiling in Miami – and show a vehicle that might just live up to its controversial advertising promise of being radically new.

Initial online reactions suggest that the concept car, a sleek electric model with a long hood in eye-catching pink, may actually look more familiar to fans of Barbie or the Pink Panther than to traditional Jaguar owners.

One of the most striking features, apart from the colors, is the lack of a rear window, instead rear cameras are installed under gold patches behind the front wheel.

Above the large wheels and wheel arches, the car’s distinctive front fascia is covered by a windshield that appears to merge with the side windows, which taper toward the rear of the car, contributing to what Autocar describes as “an all-round effect reminiscent of a racing helmet.” “remembers”, describes “.

It’s unclear how exactly the leaked images match up with the concept car, which will be unveiled in Miami later on Monday evening (8:00 p.m. EST, 1:00 a.m. BST). Jaguar Land Rover had previously announced that its first electric model would be a four-door sedan, but the leaked images only appear to show two doors.

A spokesman said the company was “aware of images circulating online in the lead-up to Jaguar’s official unveiling at Miami Art Week.”

The interior shots also show a driver’s seat without a speedometer – which is required by law in most countries – and without touchscreen in-car entertainment systems, which are standard equipment even in midsize cars.

However, Jaguar confirmed that at least the colors were correct. The spokesperson said: “For the design vision we chose Miami Pink and London Blue. Miami Pink celebrates the vibrancy of the city, while London Blue, a modern interpretation of the E-Type’s opalescent silver blue, is a nod to Jaguar’s British heritage.”

The abandonment of much of this traditional heritage was pursued in teaser advertisements featuring various models and no real cars and the slogan “Don’t copy anything”, a break with advertising tradition that has generated widespread publicity and controversy, including criticism in some quarters of Jaguar sales of “woke” cars.

Jaguar executives said the carmaker needed to target a new generation as it transitioned from selling diesel models. The electric car, which is not scheduled to go on sale until 2026, is expected to cost more than £100,000.

The carmaker, part of the Indian Tata Group, was slower to introduce electric cars than many competitors and only sold one model, the aging Jaguar I-Pace. However, the company is investing £18 billion to produce battery versions of its product range alongside petrol vehicles. Deliveries of the electric Range Rover, which will be manufactured at its main factory in Solihull in the West Midlands, will begin at the end of next year.
