Implosion of the Homer City generation station for Saturday morning

Industry icons will disappear on Saturday, which once defined the Southern Indiana County district.

Since the late 1960s, Homer City generation of miles has been seen thanks to their stacks and towers, some of which extend well over a thousand foot in the air. But shortly after dawn on Saturday morning, all stacks and towers in the former coal system will renovate this location as a natural gas system as a local organization.

Thousands of people are expected to watch the hills and streets in the area to observe this unique event, and the officials say that security is of the utmost importance.

Soldier Clifford Greenfield from the Pennsylvania State Police says that they will patrol around the work and the surrounding areas to protect the community.

“We ask someone in the area whether they are going through or whether they are visiting this event to follow the street rules,” said Trooper Greenfield. “Pay attention to private property, do your best so as not to block streets. We have to keep the streets open. If you see something extraordinary, please call us and let us know.”

There is an exclusion zone for the public of 3,000 feet from any location charged, but there are countless places in the area where people can safely watch.

A person who will get up early and is enthusiastic about Saturday is Bryan Mealy from Blairsville.

“My wife and I have a babysitter so that we could drop the stacks,” said Mealy.

When asked why he believes that people love to see implosions so much, said Mealy: “It is only the destruction. Who doesn’t like good demo?”

The implosion is set for Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and the only thing that gives a version for these towers is bad weather.
