The Afghan Defense Ministry said Saturday that its forces had launched an attack on several locations in Pakistan in retaliation for last week’s deadly airstrikes.

It said the armed forces had targeted locations that “served as centers and hideouts for malicious elements and their supporters who organized and coordinated attacks in Afghanistan.” The ministry did not disclose whether there were any victims or provide details about how the attacks were carried out.

Last Tuesday, Pakistan launched an operation against a training facility in Afghanistanin the eastern province of Paktika, with the aim of eliminating insurgents. Dozens of people were killed in the airstrikes, most of them women and children.

Pakistani officials accuse the Taliban of failing to curb cross-border militant activity. However, the Taliban government denies these allegations, saying it does not allow anyone to use Afghan territory to attack other countries.

Pakistan’s foreign ministry was not immediately available to comment on the retaliation.
