An Indian-origin man from Virginia is charged with murder in the disturbing case of his wife’s disappearance. Naresh Bhatt, 33, is accused of killing his wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a 28-year-old from Nepal. Man charged with murdering wife in Virginia

According to court records obtained by People, Bhatt was charged with two felonies in the Prince William County Circuit Criminal Division. His wife Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a 28-year-old mother originally from Nepal, was last seen on July 29 but her body has not yet been found.

A Virginia grand jury has formally indicted Bhatt, a Manassas Park resident, on murder and corpse desecration charges after authorities uncovered overwhelming evidence of a crime, including suspicious purchases and disturbing search histories, in the weeks after her disappearance.

Mamta was reported missing on August 5 after she failed to show up for work, prompting a “health check by local police.” In addition to these allegations, he is also accused of concealing a corpse. Bhatt is now scheduled to appear in court to respond to the latest allegations against him.

Prosecutors allege Naresh Bhatt threw a blood-stained bath mat and bags into a trash compactor shortly after his wife’s disappearance. While his lawyers argue that she is still alive, DNA evidence confirmed that her blood was found in her home, suggesting she was killed and dismembered. Authorities say this strengthens the case, even though her body has not been found.

Early in the investigation, Bhatt reportedly gave unclear explanations about his wife’s disappearance and refused to report her missing. He was arrested following a search of their home on August 22 and has remained in custody since being refused bail in September. Prosecutors reportedly presented surveillance footage showing Bhatt disposing of trash bags in dumpsters. Authorities have conducted a thorough search for Mamta, the mother of one, as suspicions grow that she was murdered by her husband.
