Is Hamilton Twp., NJ starting a sign war with Egg Harbor Twp.?

Damn, that’s cold.

Is one South Jersey municipality implying that it is better at enforcing speed limits than another? It certainly seems that way.

Our journey today takes us to the border of Hamilton and Egg Harbor Townships (“EHT”) in Atlantic County, where the start of a turf war (or at least a sign war) may be brewing.

Cates Road is a small road that runs between Reega/West Jersey Avenue and Black Horse Pike; It is a road used by many to get from point A to point B easily. It is also a road that straddles both communities – the northern part is in Hamilton Township, while the other half is in Egg Harbor Township.

The problem is that Cates Road (in both townships) has a 25 mph speed limit that is often ignored.

To draw attention to the issue, a sign has been popping up on the Hamilton Township side of the line for about a day…

Is Hamilton Township saying they can do a better job of enforcing the speed limit?

First of all, let’s take it at face value: the sign Is in Hamilton Township, so technically and judging by the literal words on the sign, it’s not in EHT.

But I don’t think that’s what they want to say. I think they’re trying to imply that it’s Hamilton Township Really wants people to slow down – even at the cost of making EHT look bad.

Maybe “bad” isn’t the right word, but apparently someone in Hamilton Township took a sarcasm class and passed with flying colors.

Regardless of whether the purpose of this sign was to draw attention to speeders on a residential street, it did exactly that.

However, we can’t help but wonder if someone from Egg Harbor Township across the street will put up a message board with a message that makes the bear a little suspicious…
