Check out the official synopsis Y2K below:

“On the last night of 1999, two high school students crash a New Year’s Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives over the telephone in this disaster comedy.”

The nostalgia can be felt in the trailer Y2Kand introduces the audience to the nerdy best friend duo Eli (Martell) and Danny (Dennison). Often ignored by the rest of her much cooler high school cohort, Eli is determined to celebrate the new millennium by not only going to a party, but also sharing a midnight kiss with the popular Laura (Zegler). But when the clock strikes twelve, the party breaks out. Electronic devices begin to act on their own and turn into murderous weapons that are out to kill these children in the craziest ways. From VHS players playing tapes to Tamagotchis piercing someone’s head, the Y2K virus has officially infected anything that runs on electricity. Without parental supervision, Eli, Danny and Laura work together to make it through the night – or at least New Year’s Eve.

Y2K has a coming-of-age feel similar to this Shaun of the Dead and the bloodlust of Body, body, body. Speaking to Collider at SXSW, Zegler opened up about how the film differs from her previous projects.

“You really think, it’s a real coming of age, these two kids are going to have New Year’s Eve, (then) midnight hits and things go a little different than you think. It was really fun to read it. It was so different than anything I had read before, and certainly unlike anything I had ever done before, so it was just an instant yes.”

Nobody likes pushing 30, and Shaun (Simon Pegg) knows the feeling all too well. The 29-year-old Londoner leads a tedious, mundane life. Shaun makes ends meet as a mediocre electronics salesman and his home life is as bad as his job. With a family looking down on him and a tired girlfriend thinking about breaking up, Shaun doesn’t have much to live on. But when a zombie apocalypse unexpectedly arrives on their doorstep, Shaun and his equally boring best friend Ed (Nick Frost) have to pull themselves together not only for themselves, but also for Shaun’s girlfriend. Follow every rule in the zombie movie playbook, some might say Shaun of the Dead is a coming-of-age story. Like Shaun, everyone goes through some sort of identity crisis, especially as an adult. But it takes a full-blown zombie apocalypse for Shaun to realize he’s destined for something better.
