Israeli tourist and host family moderator-gang gangs in India, says the police, says the police

According to the police, two women were killed in an attack near a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site in southern India.

The two women – an Israeli tourist and an Indian host family operator – died with three male tourists near a lake in the city of Hampi, Karnataka when they were attacked by a group of men on Thursday evening, said the superintendent Ram Arasiddi Reuters.

Arasiddi said the attackers had pushed the men into the Tungabhadra channel before raping the women.

Two of the men, one of them Americans, survived, and the third man’s body was recovered on Saturday morning, he said.

“Five people – two women and three men – were attacked near Sanapur,” said Arasiddi.

“Two of them are foreigners, an American (man) and another one woman from Israel.”

The police arrested two of the men accused of attack, and an examination continues, said Arasiddi. The police believe that the group’s men followed.

The US State Department said that it was “reported that a US citizen near Hampi belonged to a group of victims of violent crimes”.

According to testimonies of one of the women, the group died near a temple in Sanapur when three men arrived on a motorcycle and asked where they could get petrol.

When a member of the group gave them instructions, one of the three men demanded 100 rupees (1.29 US dollars) from the tourists.

“Since the memory operator did not know her, she told you that you had no money,” said the police.

“When the men repeatedly insisted on it, one of the male tourists gave them 20 rupees.

“After that, the three men supposedly started to argue.”

The body of one of the male tourists was later found in the Tungabhadra channel in the Koppal district of Karnataka.

A case was registered at the rural police station Gangavathi in connection with extortion, robbery, gang rape and tried murder.

The victims receive medical treatment in a government hospital, the police said.

Hampi, an old village in the South Indian state of Karnataka, houses numerous ruins and temples from Vijayanagara. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.

Prime Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah wrote in a post on X: “The attack and rape of an Israeli citizen and household owner are an extremely hideous act.

“As soon as the incident was reported, I received information from the responsible police, carried out a thorough investigation and instructed it to quickly identify the culprit.

“The police arrested two defendants in connection with the case and continues the investigation.”

Attacks on women in India were attracted to international attention last year after the brutal rape of a junior doctor in a hospital in the eastern city of Kolkata.

The attack triggered national outrage and protests against a lack of security for women.
