Here are five storylines to watch from this week’s UIL government finals.

Perhaps the most anticipated local regional final will take place Saturday when nationally ranked North Crowley (13-0) takes on five-time state champion Allen (13-0) at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield at 2 p.m.

After Saturday’s 35-24 win over Coppell, North Crowley has scored 743 points and has a chance to become the ninth Dallas-area team to ever score 800 or more points in a season. North Crowley also has a chance to break the area record for most points in a season, which stands at 838 in 16 games at Kennedale in 2017.

Allen’s toughest task will be slowing down three-star North Crowley wide receiver Quentin Gibson, a Colorado commit who has 78 receptions for 1,703 yards and 30 touchdowns. North Crowley quarterback Chris Jimerson Jr. has thrown 49 touchdown passes – second-most among Area 6A players – and accounted for three touchdowns in a 49-37 win over Allen in a regional final last year.

Both have surpassed 1,000 receiving yards this season and combined for 2,620 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Alvarado has had close calls the last two weeks, defeating Frisco Panther Creek 44-41 in double overtime and holding off Sulfur Springs 42-39 last week. Celina dominated both teams, defeating Panther Creek 42-7 and defeating Sulfur Springs 31-6.

5 Regional Semifinal Thoughts: South Oak Cliff gets a rematch in the state finals

Highland Park won three straight state titles from 2016-18 and entered its third-round playoff game against Frisco Lone Star in 2019 with an 11-1 record. Lone Star ended Highland Park’s dynasty and is hoping for a four-peat winning 33-27 when running back Jaden Nixon sprinted through an open hole in overtime and scored a game-winning 18-yard touchdown.

Highland Park would get revenge in 2020, beating Lone Star 30-20 in another third round playoff matchup. That was their last playoff match, but they will renew their rivalry on Friday when they meet in the Class 5A Division I Region II final at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco at 7 p.m.
