BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Central Alabama will be chilly this weekend before getting even colder early next week, according to CBS 42 Chief Meteorologist David Nussbaum.

Friday evening: Clear and colder with frost for all of central Alabama. Low temperatures will be in the low to upper 20s. Protect all plants, provide a warm place for pets and keep heaters away from objects. Wind chills will be in the lower 20s across eastern Alabama.

Weekend outlook: An intensifying shot of colder air arrives as an upper-level wave moves across the state. Saturday will be mostly sunny and cool with high temperatures in the lower 50s. Saturday night will be mostly clear and cold, with lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Sunday will be sunny and cool with highs in the 50s.

Iron Bowl Prediction: It will be a cold game this year. Wrap up warmly to venture out in temperatures around 30°C. Kickoff temperatures at 2:30 p.m. Saturday will be in the low 50s with sunshine. By the fourth quarter, temperatures will drop to below 40°C.

The outlook for next week: A second shot of colder air arrives early next week as an area of ​​high pressure prevails over the southeastern United States. Monday morning will be very cold, with temperatures in the upper teens to mid 20s.

The afternoon will be sunny and cold, with highs around 40°C. Tuesday will be sunny and cool, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 10s to mid 20s. High pressure will move east of Alabama on Wednesday with sunshine and high temperatures in the 50s. An upper wave will move over Alabama on Thursday and Friday, producing some showers. It will be milder with high temperatures in the mid 50s to lower 60s.
