Jamie Foxx says he was in a coma and ‘on the brink of death’ during a mysterious health crisis: Insider

Jamie Foxx will address his mysterious health scare from last year in his upcoming special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…”.

The Netflix special, filmed in Atlanta in October, featured a live audience. One viewer, Demecos Chambers, told Fox News Digital Foxx that the medical panic that made headlines in April 2023 was a serious situation.

Chambers said Foxx described being “on the verge of death” after passing out and falling into a coma for several weeks.

“His health was terribly poor, as if Jamie were on the verge of death. His vitals were all over the place. “Manage to get out of there,'” Chambers told Fox News Digital.

“It was life-threatening and had nothing to do with drugs. And it was serious. I don’t want to reveal it to everyone, but I will say that it was something that he literally talks about.” The experience, when he was working on set in Atlanta, he passed out, woke up and thought, “Oh, me just, you know, passed out or just passed out for a minute and woke up.”

“But he’s like he woke up in a hospital bed… and goes, ‘Wow, I have to stay here for a few hours.’ They said, ‘No, Jamie, you’ve been here for weeks, you’ve been in a coma,'” Chambers said.

Chambers said one of Foxx’s daughters visited Foxx while he was in a coma and played guitar for him. The actor is the father of Corinne and Anelise.

“And it got to a point where his daughter came to the hospital and played this song on his guitar. It’s like that beloved song between him and her.”

“And since she started this, his vitals and everything have been improving while he’s in a coma. So the doctors can’t explain it. Nobody can explain what’s going on. And even the daughter isn’t really aware of it ) What’s going on? She is only there to support her father in the way she sees fit. And the more she plays, the better he recovers from that coma until he finally wakes up,” Chambers said, without revealing which daughter he was referring to.

Chambers said Foxx told the audience that doctors had told him he had a “30% chance of survival.” Chambers also shared that Foxx brought out the medical and rehabilitation staff at the end of the show.

Chambers explained the now-deleted selfie Foxx uploaded to social media of himself in the hospital. According to the event attendee, Foxx uploaded the “pale” looking selfie to reassure fans that he was fine.

“So while he was in the hospital in his drugged state, he decided to go into the hospital bathroom, take a selfie and post a selfie,” Chambers said.

“So he posted a selfie. He looks really pale. You know, he’s on all these drugs and everything, and he posted online, ‘Hey guys, I’m fine.’ And he looks like a very, very pale version of himself and everyone’s like, ‘Oh my God, they cloned Jamie Fox,'” he joked.

Although Foxx reports a very serious medical scare, Chambers noted that some of the Netflix specials are funny.

“So he talks about this story. And the whole thing is like it’s really a very heartfelt, very serious, very funny story. But at the same time, it shows how much of a comedian’s life can be,” he said.

Netflix had no comment on Fox News Digital. Foxx’s representatives did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

“When people ask me if this is a stand-up comedy show, I say no, it’s an artistic explanation. Something went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta, especially at Piedmont Hospital, they made it possible for me to come back and be on stage doing what I love to do…”

The Oscar-winning actor chatted with concerned fans outside a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona in July, where he tried to provide answers about what happened when he had a “medical complication.”

“See, April 11th last year had a bad headache and asked my boy for an Advil,” Foxx said before snapping his fingers. “I was gone for 20 days.

“I don’t remember anything,” Jamie told fans in the restaurant. “So they told me – I’m in Atlanta – they told me, my sister and my daughter, they took me to the first doctor and they said… ‘No,’ gave me a cortisone shot.”

“The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there.’ I won’t say it on camera. But it was like that,” Foxx said, nodding thoughtfully.
