Jared Verse is the heavy favorite to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

Jared Verse was the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year for most of the season, rising quickly after trailing Dallas Turner and Laiatu Latu at the start of the season. However, before Week 16, he was overtaken by Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, the first time since Week 2 that Verse wasn’t the favorite.

Although Verse didn’t particularly stand out in Sunday’s win over the Jets, he’s once again the clear favorite to win the award. According to BetMGM, Verse is now the Defensive Rookie of the Year at -500, well ahead of Mitchell (+400).

These odds give Verse an implied probability of 83.3% of winning the prize, while Mitchell is only at 20%.

Although Verse had a rather dull game against the Jets, Mitchell had a somewhat difficult day against the Commanders in Week 16. He gave up a long touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin, his first allowed this year, and gave up 47 yards in coverage, his third-highest total of the season.

Verse hasn’t secured the award yet, but he’s gone from +135 to -500 in a week, getting ever closer to winning the coveted trophy with just two games to go.
