Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday are out against Detroit

The Boston Celtics announced that both Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday will be out tonight against the Detroit Pistons. Tatum is out with right patellar tendinopathy, while Holiday missed his third game with left knee tendinopathy. Both were listed as questionable on Tuesday, but now neither will face the Pistons.

In an interview last season, Tatum talked about not wanting to sit out games:

“There were times when we talked about it two weeks in advance: ‘Let’s cancel the game.’ And I’ll say, “Okay.” Then the day will come and I’ll say, “That” (expletive). I think it’s just the kid in me. I’ve always dreamed of playing in the NBA and I never want to take that for granted. I just love playing basketball…I just want to play all the time.”

Tatum has been both durable and reliable throughout his NBA career. Last season he was used in 74 games.

The former Duke Blue Devil played at an MVP level this year, averaging 28.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists and was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for October/November.

This is Holiday’s third missed game and second in a row. It doesn’t appear to be a long-term injury, and there’s a chance Holiday could return Friday when Boston hosts the Milwaukee Bucks.
