It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall when Jenna Ortega first heard the rumors that she was dating Johnny Depp.

Actually, this is nothing new as celebrities are always brought together, mostly because some fans think they would make a cute couple.

However, it was news to Ortega when the then 21-year-old actress found out that she was allegedly dating Depp, then 60.

The rumor started when celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi shared an anonymous tip last year that the couple had been spotted on a date.

But just for context, it’s important to note that Deuxmoi never claimed that any of his tips were actually true. Her Instagram bio reads: “Some statements made on this account have not been independently verified. This account does not claim that the information published is factual.”

Nevertheless, the rumors spread and numerous articles appeared in which Ortega allegedly commented on their relationship.

In an interview with BuzzFeed while promoting her film: Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceOrtega commented on the situation when asked what was the craziest rumor she had ever heard about herself.

“Probably because I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and wanted everyone to ‘leave us alone,'” he said Wednesday Star replied.

“It’s so crazy to me that I never talked about it, I never said anything like that,” she added. “Articles basically just make up their own quotes, but I found that pretty hilarious.”

“I was on set with (co-star) Richard E. Grant and he came up to me and was like, ‘Oh, you and Johnny,’ and I laughed because – I don’t know that person,” she continued.

Online fans seem to like Ortega’s reaction, particularly commenting on it by noting, “I don’t know this person.”

Depp’s representatives also denied the rumors, writing: “Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega. He never met her or spoke to her.

“He is not involved in any project with her and has no intention of doing so. He is appalled by these unfounded and malicious rumors, which are intended to damage his reputation and career.”

Ortega has previously mentioned that she has no plans to ever speak publicly about her love life, stating that she fears it would overshadow her work.

During an interview with Vanity Fair in 2024, the actress shared, “I don’t plan on talking publicly about my love life because that’s mine.”

“If you know too much about someone’s personal life, then you watch movies and only see them (the celebrity side of it), there’s nothing worse,” she added.
