The 2015 film features numerous deeply upsetting moments, exquisitely mixed with humor to ensure an immersive viewing experience.

The film introduces a fairly basic villain in Topher Grace, but its titular CIA agent is crucial to the narrative. Adrian Yates (Grace) often feels out of place in the complex dynamic American Ultrapossibly due to its relatively minor role. The actor is cast in many interchangeable roles, but that’s because he plays the annoying villain brilliantly. Grace’s role strengthens the relationship between Eisenberg and Stewartincrease their performance and advance the plot. Ultimately, the duo’s performances are the film’s true strength, lending authenticity to an otherwise incredible scenario.

The pair are a team, but it’s obvious that Stewart is the mastermind of their retaliation, creating an intriguing kinship between them. Furthermore, there is an interesting reversal in both traits.

Where Adventureland dedicates its second act to the relationship between its main characters, American Ultrato some extent it seems to go the other way. It just so happens that Eisenberg and Stewart have a wonderful connectionAnd American Ultra shows the simplicity that often comes from young love. From watching Mike and Phoebe call each other during the day to tell a story to sharing their problems with each other, it’s a love story that feels neither forced nor unconvincing. American Ultra is simply a remarkable depiction of romance that sits well within the broader range of narratives from the period.
