John Deere introduces new planting technologies to maximize efficiency

February 28, 2025, Kansas: John Deere (NYSE: DE) announced new Planter technologies today, which are intended to make the planting process more efficient, which means that farmers bring the harvest in tight windows due to weather and other diseases. Three new technology sensing on the seed level, recording level at fertilizer level and active vacuum automation-give farmers further information that is necessary to keep planters going.

Recording at the seed level

  • This logistics improvement offers farmers a closer look at the sill level remaining in the tank. At the moment, farmers appreciate the time based on previous experiences or general visual indicators, and must often stop and manually check the seed values remaining in the tank. The detection of seed level places a sensor in the tank that can measure the remaining seed volume in the tank, which is made available to the operator in the cabin and the John Deere Operations Center. This new function contains more precise information about when and where seeds for tank refills are available. This function is available on the year 2026 planter or as a precision upgrade for certain models for model year 2022.

Detection of fertilizer level

  • Similar to the Sensing on seed level, this improvement focuses on improving plant logistics by providing better information about the fertilizer level remaining in the tank. The invention of the fertilizer level is an external distributor that includes two pressure sensors that are used to calculate the fluid density and the volume remaining in the tank. This has to enter the density value and at the same time give it the opportunity to see the tank volume in the cabin and in the John Deere Operations Center. The detection of fertilizer level is available on the planters of the 2026 model and is also a precision upgrade that can be added to machines that are model year 2022 and new.

Active vacuum automation

  • To help farmers to make sure that they get the best out of their seeds, John Deere added an active vacuum automation in the year 2026 planters with electrical drives and the Seedstar added 5 surveillance system. This function looks out in real time when it comes to singulation and adapts the vacuum automatically and helps to avoid skips and doubles. Active vacuum automation minimizes the interaction between operator and contributes to the control of the actual seed population compared to manual adjustments that had to be made beforehand.

“In cooperation with farmers and John Deere dealers, we found solutions for the way our customers can continue to roll during the planting period,” said Anthony Styczinski, product marketing manager at John Deere. “These solutions help farmers to complete the most critical part of the production cycle and to bring the harvest to an optimal start.”
