Jon Hamm reveals the text his sister sent him after watching “Wreckage” in the Season 1 finale of Landman

Jon Hamm isn’t sure if he ever died on screen, but his sister definitely doesn’t think he did.

After the emotional finale of the first season of Countrymanwhich aired on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 12, and featured Hamm’s character, M-Tex Oil CEO Monty Miller, succumbing to heart problems, the 53-year-old actor reflected on his role in the Taylor Sheridan series – and revealed his family reaction to Monty’s fate.

Hamm admitted that he “can’t remember” if a character he’s played has ever died on screen The Hollywood Reporter“My sister texted me and said, ‘I can’t believe I had to watch you die on screen.’ And I thought, ‘Have you never seen this before?’ And she said, ‘No!'”

(Hamm has actually died on screen before – his character was killed off by Dakota Johnson in 2018 Bad times at the El Royale.)

The morning show The actor said that filming his final moments as Monty was “particularly difficult because you’re basically on the way out, and that’s not fun,” but the “caliber of actors” he worked with – namely Demi Moore, who played his wife Cami Miller, and Billy Bob Thornton, who played his right-hand man Tommy Norris, made it “really outstanding”.

“They say, ‘This is a spectacular group of people,’ and I just can’t imagine it being more exciting or more entertaining.”

Hamm admittedly doesn’t have the clearest memory of what his last day on set actually looked like, since it’s been almost a year now, but said this was his time Countryman in general was “so compressed.”

“I remember I didn’t meet Billy Bob until three or four weeks into my filming schedule. Our time together was short, but it was definitely fun.”

Hamm’s “other commitments” resulted in his inability to “be a regular on another series,” which brings his character’s death in the season one finale even closer. But he told the outlet he couldn’t pass up “the opportunity to work with Taylor (Sheridan) and Billy Bob (Thornton).”

“These are people whose careers I really paid attention to. They’re just working at the top of their game.”

However, looking ahead to season two, he knows there will be “a lot of debris to clear up,” especially for Cami (Moore).

“I think she’s probably pretty upset that her husband is gone and that her family is devastated. From experience, it’s hard to come back from it. It’s no fun losing a parent or someone close to you.”

In March, Hamm told PEOPLE about his role in Countryman as he teased “a lot of back and forth (and) a lot of intrigue” in the series.

“It’s Taylor Sheridan and obviously it’s very well written. It is very well researched. It’s a very well-told story, and I think it’s an interesting take on what’s happening when it comes to how we get the things that make up our cars and our lives and our planes and everything in ours fly in the modern world.

He also raved about his co-stars back then. “It has Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore in it, so it’s a great cast and it was a lot of fun to work on. And of course Taylor Sheridan is responsible for everything, so it’s a great project.”
