Jon Stewart accuses the media of making Americans afraid of Trump

Jon Stewart used the latest episode of his “Weekly Show” podcast (via The Daily Beast) to criticize the media for making Americans fearful of Donald Trump’s second term as president before it has even begun.

“The Daily Show” host said America is in a “transitional period where we’re not sure the ground we’re standing on is stable,” pointing out that the media is only stoking more fear, by being “convinced that we are the roadrunner and…” The coyote and the coyote ran over the cliff, and we just looked down and saw there was nothing beneath our feet, and now we pounce to death.”

“We don’t know what will happen if Donald Trump takes power,” Stewart said, adding that Americans “should be prepared for any consequences,” but “I don’t know how helpful it is to be so invested.” “To do your pants,” so early.”

Stewart is often critical of how the media covers Trump. During Trump’s hush money trial in April, Stewart criticized the media for covering the “everyday nonsense” of the trial as if it were “earth-shattering news.” He encouraged the press of the time to “limit reporting to current issues and try not to create an all-encompassing spectacle with the most banal details.”

“What the hell are we doing?” Stewart asked. “See! At some point in this process something important and insightful will happen. But none of us will notice it because we’ve spent an hour with our speculative expressions. When the media tries to make us feel that the most banal nonsense is earth-shattering , we won’t believe you if he’s actually interesting. It’s your classic boy who cried wolf… Blitzer.”

In late October, after Trump’s controversial rally at Madison Square Garden, where comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a divisive joke about Puerto Rico, Stewart urged the media not to focus too much on the joke and ignore Trump himself.

“The media is focusing on the terrible jokes that were made. “Focus on Trump, who would have the power,” Stewart said in a new interview with Vanity Fair. “Focus on the guy who says, ‘I’m going to deport everyone using the law we used to intern the Japanese.'”
