Jordan Spieth and Joel Dahmen heard a joke or two after the couple had gone into the driving area at PGA in front of the Cognizant Classic this week.

Spieth is one of the biggest names in the field this week, and its popularity was clear with the certainty that the former Masters champion dealt with when he made his way into the range in Florida. Competitors Dahmen quickly noticed the police presence.

When three police officers looked at the reach, Dahmen was heard: “Jordan, you really need three officials? I know that you should get one, but …”

Spieth quickly replied to his competitor and replied with a smile: “You try to go in my shoes for a day”, and Dahmen and his Caddy Geno Bonnalie in hysterical bed. Spieth and Dahmen enjoyed a solid start to their tournament on the golf course, and both searched for an urgently needed form.

Spieth in particular will be interested in achieving an improved performance that has not managed to reach a place in the Arnold Palmer Invitational (API) Bay Hill in the next week. The 13-fold PGA Tour winner was a main support in the biggest events of the race track, but recently he has been turned out of the elite group.

With the API there is a signature event on the PGA tour, only 70 players in the field, and Spieth’s lack of form last year ensured that it is not one of them. He received a sponsor invitation to compete with Genesis Invitational this month, but the same offer was not made for the next week.

He has the opportunity to show those responsible for the Arnold Palmer Invitational what they may be missing with a strong performance this week. On Thursday, Spieth got his name well in the mix after having cardiac in the first round an impressive six-end-par-par-65-65.

However, Spieth still has to do work and ended the opening day behind Leader Jake Knapp, who wrote his name in the PGA Tour history books by carding a 12-below 59-year-old. During the week, Spieth turned to his ball after having previously made with his driver, and it seemed to work for him on Thursday.

“Well, I cracked my driver and tried to get into a driver since Pebble (beach),” he said after the round. “So Phoenix was, I was in a driver and then San Diego was in a driver. Adapted settings to try to get the start and turn properly.

“What ended was the newer ball, the 25x, the window in which it goes into it is a little closer to the one I played, and if everything turns a little less, it is a bit lower, but it has the right spin rates for my four, five, six iron. Then it just got better with the driver.
