Judge grants continuance in Bowman murder case

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – After several delays in the murder case against defendant Connor Bowman, an Olmsted County judge has allowed his trial to continue.

The former Mayo Clinic doctor is accused of poisoning his wife Betty Bowman. Betty was a pharmacist at the Mayo Clinic.

Connor appears before Judge Kathy Wallace on Monday. He is charged with second-degree premeditated murder and first-degree premeditated murder.

In a letter to Judge Wallace, the defense requested a short-term continuance because an investigator recently had to leave the case for personal reasons. The defense asked for more time to give a new investigator time to go through the “extremely massive amounts of data” seized during the investigation.

Connor’s next court date has not yet been set.

Betty was hospitalized in August 2023 after experiencing symptoms similar to food poisoning. According to the criminal complaint, Betty did not respond to treatment and died a few days later. Investigators said Connor initially tried to cancel Betty’s autopsy, asking what type of toxicology analysis would be performed. According to the criminal complaint, these things were a red flag for the coroner.

Betty’s autopsy revealed that she had high levels of colchicine, a drug commonly used to treat an arthritis called gout. Her manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Connor was not arrested until October 2023. In January 2024, Connor was indicted by a grand jury on first-degree murder charges.
