Jury deliberations in Nima Momeni’s trial for the murder of Bob Lee continue on the second day

On Thursday, jurors in San Francisco began their second day of deliberations in the murder trial of defendant Nima Momeni in the fatal knife attack on Cash App founder Bob Lee in 2023.

The jury resumed deliberations at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a day after it first received the case, following some final instructions from the judge presiding over the trial.

Momeni was charged with first-degree murder, which carries a sentence of 26 years to life in prison. The jury is also considering second-degree murder and manslaughter in the case.

The judge told the jury that the verdict had to be unanimous.

The state has accused Momeni fatal attack on tech manager Lee in a remote part of San Francisco’s East Cut neighborhood on an early morning in April 2023.

The jury will consider 21 days sometimes controversial statement and thousands of pieces of evidence as they weigh the fate of Nima Momeni.

The consultations began one day after Momeni’s lawyer ended their closing argument with a surprising video clip They claimed Lee showed himself using cocaine outside a private club hours later, using the same knife used to kill him hours later.

On Wednesday morning, Lee’s ex-wife Krista met rejected these claimswhich represents an alternative answer to what her ex-husband may have had on his hands outside of the battery.

“It wasn’t a knife he was holding. It was a metal collar stay. It’s something Bob has used for years. It’s about oh, long,” Lee said, holding his thumb and index finger about four to five inches apart. “And I can only hope that it comes out in the evidence.”

The possibility that the item in Bob Lee’s hand was a collar stay is unlikely to come up during jury deliberations because it was never mentioned in the courtroom.

Asked why they first put forward their theory that Lee was seen on video with the knife hours earlier at the end of the trial, defense attorneys said it was all part of their strategy.

“This is a big moment in this case because it shows that he was actually in possession of a knife, which everyone in this room knows is a knife,” said defense attorney Bradford Cohen.

“No collar pin was found at the crime scene. She makes up evidence. Because if it was the collar pin, they would have found the collar pin on him,” added defender Saam Zangeneh.
