Jury selection begins in the trial of a Maine man for the murder of a 3-year-old girl

WISCASSET, Maine (WGME) – Jury selection is expected to begin Tuesday in the case against a Maine man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl who was found dead in Edgecomb on Christmas Day.

Tyler Witham-Jordan is charged with depraved indifference murder over the death of his girlfriend’s daughter, Makinzlee Handrahan.

On Christmas morning in 2022, Handrahan’s mother called 911 around 7:30 a.m. after finding her daughter cold, stiff, injured and not breathing.

Dispatchers said they heard the girl’s mother say, “Oh my God, I think my daughter is dead.”

Her boyfriend, later identified as Witham-Jordan, was heard saying, “I’m f—-d” and “I’m done.”

First responders said they found bruises all over the little girl’s body.

The coroner ruled her cause of death as blunt force trauma and said she had internal injuries.

According to court documents, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said a DHHS investigation took place last October after Handrahan’s daycare reported she had a scratch and bruises that her mother and Witham-Jordan said were caused by a cat scratch and caused by a fall on the stairs. Investigators say there was also a purple swelling under her eye at the time.

According to police, Witham-Jordan was still living with Handrahan and her mother months later when she was found dead on Christmas.

Jury selection for the case begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lincoln County Superior Court. The jury trial will begin once jury selection is complete.
