Jury selection begins with the murder of Ole Miss student | News

OXFORD, Miss. – It’s been two years since Jimmie “Jay” Lee went missing. Lee’s body has yet to be found.

Sheldon Timothy Herrington is accused of Lee’s murder and is scheduled to stand trial for murder.

July 8, 2022 was the last time anyone saw 20-year-old Jimmie Jay Lee alive. At that point, the Ole Miss student left the Campus Walk Apartments in Oxford, Miss. His family later knew something was wrong.

Lee has been missing since that day. The trial of Herrington, the man accused of killing Lee, is scheduled to begin Monday.

According to investigators, Herrington said he and Lee actually had a sexual relationship. It’s very likely that an Oxford Police Department detective could take the stand at trial and detail the social media and Google records that Lee allegedly brought to Herrington’s apartment around 6 a.m. on the day Lee disappeared have.

At an earlier hearing, a detective testified in court that Herrington googled, “How long does it take to strangle someone?”

Two years after his disappearance and his body still unrecovered, a judge in Mississippi declared Lee dead in November.

Herrington could face the death penalty if found guilty.
