Justine Bateman calls for Gavin Newsom to be removed over LA fires ‘before something worse happens’

Justine Bateman is calling for Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Los Angeles officials to be removed from office.

The actress insisted that Newsom be removed after she shared a video of the California governor saying he wanted to work with President-elect Donald Trump on firefighting.

“I really want other voters in California to recognize the lack of sincerity, the contempt, the indulgence in hubris and the neglect of care for the citizens of California,” Bateman wrote on X.

“He has always proven that. In every video. This type of person cannot be trusted with a role, and certainly not one on which our well-being depends,” she added. “Gavin Newsom needs to be removed before something worse happens here.”

She also called for the ouster of LA Mayor Karen Bass, writing: “Your irresponsibility and apathy towards the people of Los Angeles is reprehensible. Bateman, known for her role in Family Ties, has been open about her views since the fires began. The filmmaker continues to share her criticism on social media and appeared on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

“I’m pretty pissed, and I think a lot of people in Los Angeles are pissed,” Bateman said Jan. 9.

“If you want to run a city or a state, you have to take care of what matters most, which is making sure your fire department and your police department are well funded,” she added.

Bateman explained the importance of “well-rounded” planning to minimize the impact of natural disasters. The actress noted that Los Angeles’ current leadership is “incapable” of planning these major events.

“If you can’t afford the basics, leave our city. They are useless to us. You are a liability and you have destroyed people’s lives because you didn’t do your job,” she said.

“You didn’t do what you were hired to do. “You didn’t do what we paid you to do.” Bateman called on officials to “resign out of shame and responsibility for the people whose lives you just destroyed.”

The LA Fires began the Palisades Fire on January 7th.
