Kalen DeBoer reacts to Alabama football’s new spot in the CFP rankings

The CFP Committee released the latest CFP rankings on Tuesday, and Alabama football moved up to No. 11.

That means if the season ended today, the Crimson Tide would be in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer joined the College GameDay podcast after the rankings were announced this week and shared his reaction.

“They don’t know,” DeBoer said. “I understand that the committee has to make a difficult decision. I completely understand it. Try to balance everything. There are so many good teams in the country, not just the top team, but the entire team. You don’t know how it will turn out. Definitely happy and understand, I guess selfishly, from our side, where we feel we belong. I feel like we’re one of the teams that should be in the playoffs. A little biased of course, but also taking a step back and gaining perspective on the season we’ve had, the teams we’re playing and especially the wins we’ve had. I just feel like we belong there and have the type of team that can go the distance given this type of opportunity.”

The final CFP rankings will be announced on Sunday, selection day. The Crimson Tide will find out whether they are officially in the CFP field that day.

If SMU beats Clemson in the ACC Championship on Saturday, that should secure Alabama’s spot in the 12-team playoffs.
