Kelsey Grammer Angers UK Dorf with plans to tear down the house

The actor Kelsey Grammer has annoyed English villagers with his plans to tear down a 200-year cottage near Bristol.

A local branding of the 70-year-old star of Frasier And Prost “a shame. “

Newsweek has contacted a representative of Grammer for a comment via e -mail.

Why is it important

The conflict between prominent and small English villages has become something of a famous transition right. Ellen Degeneres collided with locals in the Cotswolds after she had proposed an extension that could possibly disturb the old Roman remains, while the singer Ed Sheeran came in hot water after he called a pond, but the neighbors claimed that it was a swimming pool.

These conflicts reflect the tensions between rich and powerful figures and local efforts to preserve regional history and the rural character.

What to know?

In 2023, Grammer bought Squires Cottage, which dates from 1800 and offers itself on the sea view over the Bristol Canal.

The house is located in the village of Walton Bay, 2.8 miles outside the city of Portishead in Somerset and is one of the few remaining traditional cottages in the region. It shows a map of North Somerset, which goes back to the 1840s.

According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Grammer applied for the first time to extend the house by 150 percent, and this was rejected. Then he applied completely.

The property is not listed, which means that it can be demolished, and the local council has decided that Grammer does not need a building permit. In a real estate list for ownership it was found that there was a program for extension or reconstruction of the property in 2021, which “had in principle received approval”.

Newsweek asked the Portishead city council for a comment by e -mail.

The locals angry the plans, and one told that Post: “They think they are rich and famous and can just do what they want. I don’t even know who he is.”

The neighbors are concerned about the preservation and the rising real estate costs in the region, and the municipal council has reportedly received several letters of complaints.

Another inhabitant told The Telegraph That it is a “shame” and adds “There are many new properties for sale if he wants a new property. Why do you want to get rid of this story?”

What people say

Kelsey Grammer told it BBC in 2023: “We bought a small place where we will work … We won’t take our residence for a while, but yes, we are quite excited about it.”

A resident told The Telegraph: “It is a shame. It adds something to this coastal road. We don’t have many old buildings in Portishead, everyone is quite valuable. A bit of history is deleted.”

What’s next

Grammer still has to react publicly to the Fallout. The demolition must be carried out on or before February 2030.
