Kentucky WBB begins the NCAA tournament against Liberty

It has been a while since we saw a basketball game for women in Kentucky (actually two weeks), let alone a basketball victory for women in Kentucky. However, this could change on Friday if the cats take over in the first round of the NCAA tournament 13-Seed Liberty.

Organic explosion

Liberty is 26-6 overall and they went 16: 2 in the conference game. Head coach Carey Green has been at the top in Lynchburg, VA since 1999.

Green brought the flames to seven consecutive NCAA tournaments to start his term, including a sweet 16 appearance in 2005. They most recently performed in Big Dance in 2018, where they fell on Tennessee with 3 seed in the first round.

The flames actually took the Lady Vols again this season, and although they lost, they scored 93 points on Tennessee. While Liberty is not necessarily an elite team, they have set up twice twice this season. Her ability to score at a fairly consistent level, she switched to a winning series with 11 games in the game on Friday.

Scouting report

Although Liberty’s numbers are not entirely elite, they are a very, very good three-point shooting team. The Flames led the United States conference by 36.9% of their attempts from Deep (also good enough for the 16th place in the country).
