Kevin Warren and Ryan Poles’ press conference didn’t make anyone in Chicago feel better about the Bears’ future

The Bears organization is dysfunctional. That’s the only thing I can say with confidence about the Bears at this point. Many point fingers back and forth, but no one raises their hand and says, “I’m in charge.” It ends with me.” Ultimately, Warren said that the Poles would have the final say if the two disagreed, but man, it took him a long time to say that. Only when pressed repeatedly did Warren switch from “We’ll handle this situation” to “Ryan is the head of football operations. It will be his decision.”

That’s what was so hard to figure out. The hierarchy in Halas Hall.

To find Poles, the Bears brought in Bill Polian as a consultant. Polian obviously has a lot of ties to the Colts and there is speculation and innuendo that Eberflus was essentially hired by Polian before Poles took the job. Then I was told that Warren wanted to fire Eberflus in January, but the Poles argued for Eberflus and continuity. So Poles stood up for a man he never actually hired? I don’t know. That seems fishy. Then it was rumored that the Poles wanted to fire Eberflus after the Patriots game, but that obviously didn’t happen. So who vetoed it? McCaskey? Labyrinth? Who the hell knows? We know that Warren, who will CLEARLY be involved in more things than just stadium development, didn’t hire Poles. This press conference clearly gave the impression that Warren would be tied to the Poles throughout the coaching search. This makes me a little uncomfortable because if Poles’ job depends on him getting the right hire, he will then go against Warren, who appears to enjoy the power.

Just bring Vrabel in here. Let him be the man who makes the big decisions. Open the bank. Give up control. Let’s have an identity. One culture. Let’s join the rest of the NFL.
