KIDD – Irving injury ‘Freak accident’, no result of the workload

Milwaukee -Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd called Kyrie Irving torn ACL as a “freak accident” and refuted any perceived connection between the increased season of the Star Guard and the injury.

In the 10 games before Irving was injured against the Sacramento Kings on Monday, he had an average of 39.3 minutes (compared to 35.9), most of the NBA, which started after Dallas’ trade with Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Before the Matchup on Wednesday evening against Milwaukee Bucks, Kidd said that he does not appreciate any connections between Irving’s increase in the season and the injury at the end of the season.

“We’re talking about a piece,” he said. “Not many before. It is a freak accident, it should be reported. We report on conspiracy theories. We want our stars to play. This should not be a remaining league.”

Irving was the most constant MAVS player this season. In 36.1 minutes he had an average of 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists and had played in 50 of the 62 games of the team. He was selected in February in his ninth all-star team.

“Kai is our leader,” said Kidd. “Kai also played at a high level; maybe some of the best basketball he played in his career. We cannot speak of both sides and say that our stars do not play enough minutes and boys don’t play enough. But now we say that they play too much.”

Dallas already plays without Anthony Davis, who left his only game with the team on February 8 because of a groin injury. Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford and Kai Jones were also on the road.

The Mavericks only had eight healthy players available against the Bucks and lost 137-107 at the end.
