Knight Monsters are defeated by Idaho 2-6

After beating Idaho 7-3 on Wednesday, the Tahoe Knight Monsters got a taste of their own medicine in game two on Friday, losing 6-2 to the Steelheads at Idaho Central Arena.

In the loss, they conceded four second-period goals and a hat trick from Connor MacEachern, and the six goals allowed are the most they have conceded all season.

The first half was mostly back and forth, with Idaho outscoring Tahoe in shots on goal, 12-8. But it was the Knight Monsters who struck first, as a fortuitous rebound from Nate Kallen’s shot sailed over the head of Idaho goalkeeper Tomas Sholl to make it 1-0

But just 19 seconds later, MacEachern scored his first goal of the day on a backdoor one-timer to tie the score.

And then in the second, things quickly spiraled out of control.

Just 46 seconds into the frame, MacEachern scored his second goal of the contest. And Idaho scored three more goals throughout the game, with a shorthanded goal from Brendan Hoffman with less than three minutes left being a real setback.

While Simon Pinard scored a goal in his first game against the Knight Monsters about four minutes into the third period, it was too little, too late. MacEachern completed the hat trick late in the third period with a great wrist shot and that was it for Tahoe.

Knight Monsters goaltender Jesper Vikman suffered his first regulation loss of his ECHL season and scored all six goals on 41 shots, both season highs.
