LA Galaxy vs New York Red Bulls live: How to watch the MLS Cup final, points, updates, stream

LA Galaxy, Major League Soccer’s biggest trophy collector, hosts the New York Red Bulls on Saturday in an MLS Originals MLS Cup Final at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Kickoff at 4 p.m. ET will feature a Red Bulls team that has only appeared in the MLS Cup final once – losing to Columbus Crew in 2008 – and entered the 2024 playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference.

But former Mainz and Dynamo Moscow coach Sandro Schwarz worked playoff magic, leading RBNY past presumed cup favorites Columbus over two games before defeating Hudson River derby rivals NYCFC and conference finalists Orlando City and reached the final.

And the Galaxy, despite their No. 2 seed status and a host of familiar names, could well feel like underdogs. That’s because megastar Riqui Puig – once Barcelona’s next big player – has suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will not be available for the final.

LA Galaxy team news, focus

Even the average football fan will recognize some of the names in the Galaxy, most notably long-time Borussia Dortmund hero Marco Reus and former Southampton centre-back Maya Yoshida. Brazilian striker Gabriel Pec has had a fantastic performance for the Galaxy, which could make coach Greg Vanney one of the few men to win MLS Cups with multiple teams.

New York Red Bulls team news, Focus

RBNY is a team without many big names with the exception of former RB Leipzig star Emil Forsberg and Scotland international Lewis Morgan. USMNT fans know midfielder Frankie Amaya and left back John Tolkin, but RBNY is a team that is better than the sum of its parts. The Red Bulls are still without long-time right-back Kyle Duncan and striker Roald Mitchell.

LA Galaxy vs New York Red Bulls prediction

Of course, anything can happen in a final, but the home game seems like a great place to start. LA had an excellent record of 13-1-3 in the famously hospitable MLS regular season, but the Red Bulls will have time to prepare for this season. They did not meet in the regular season, although the Galaxy won 2-0 in a preseason game in February. We’re not willing to bet on LA claiming its 10th crown, although RBNY will feel like it’s overdue. LA Galaxy – New York Red Bulls 2-1.
