CHESAPEAKE – Whatever coach Chris Ball did at halftime, he has to keep doing it.

Chesapeake led by just one point at halftime, but the Lady Panthers came to life in the second half and cruised to a 60-37 Ohio Valley Conference victory over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers had 4 players in double figures: Abbey Isaacs scored 20, Kate Ball 15, Erin Hicks 11 and Ciera Nichols added 10.

J’lynn Risner scored 13 and Haylee Dance scored 10 for Rock Hill.

“We didn’t have much foul trouble, we had a few new girls who were nervous and Rock Hill played well in the second quarter. Abby had a nice game and shot the ball well. Erin Hicks played the ball for us. They had poor defense for Kate and the other girls picked up on it,” Coach Ball said.

“With our pressure in the second half we were able to score more consistently. They have some nice players and are well coached, but Kate hit a few shots and Abbey was aggressive.”

Chesapeake (1-0, 1-0) took a 12-5 lead in the first quarter as Isaacs hit two 3-pointers and Ball scored 4 points.

The Redwomen came back strong in the second quarter and got within 23-22 at halftime.

Risner hit a triple and scored 9 points, Myles Bailey scored her first collegiate points with a trifecta and Abigail Payne added a basket for the scoring boost.

Ball and Chloe Parott combined for 9 points for the Lady Panthers.

But the Lady Panthers broke out in the third quarter and outscored Rock Hill 20-7.

Hicks hit a three-pointer and scored 7 points, Isaacs had 6 points, Nichols got 4 points and Ball scored a three-pointer.

Bailey hit another 3-pointer for Rock Hill, while Risner and Payne each scored 2 points.

Things weren’t much different in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake outscored the Redwomen 17-8.

Isaacs scored 8 points, Nichols had 4 more points and Ball drilled another 3-pointer.

Dance had 4 points, including two free throws, and Bailey added a basket to score all of Rock Hill’s points in the quarter.
