Landry Shamet re-signs with the Knicks after a shoulder injury and moves to the bench

The Knicks salute Landry Shamet once again.

More than two months after dislocating his shoulder in the preseason, Shamet is re-signing with the Knicks on a one-year contract, a source confirmed Sunday.

The veteran sharpshooter had forgone surgery to return to play this season, recovered strongly and appeared in the G-League three times.

Shamet has clearly shown enough for the Knicks to give him another chance, and there is certainly room for improvement with a Tom Thibodeau bench that ranks last in minutes and points.

Currently, the regular bench rotation is limited to Miles McBride, Cam Payne and Precious Achiuwa. Jericho Sims has been in and out of the rotation.

The 27-year-old Shamet brings six seasons of NBA experience, decent size and strength at the two-guard position and, most importantly for the Knicks, outside shooting.

He barely made it out of training camp to the final squad, but suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth preseason game against the Hornets.

Shamet, who was a teammate of Payne and Mikal Bridges on the Phoenix Suns, was released after separating his shoulder but was then drafted by the Westchester Knicks.

In a similar move, the Knicks waived Matt Ryan, who was unable to capitalize on his early opportunity in the Knicks’ rotation.

Ryan, who averaged 1.7 points in nine appearances while shooting just 29 percent, is still eligible to re-sign to a two-way contract.

His standard contract would have been guaranteed until January 10th had he not been waived.

Shamet, who also played for the Nets, Wizards, Clippers and Sixers, has averaged 10.7 points on just 36.7 percent shooting in the G-League since recovering from his shoulder.

In four preseason games for the Knicks, Shamet averaged 10.8 points in 22 minutes and consistently earned praise from Thibodeau.

“How he fits in,” the Knicks coach said in training camp. “There are some advantages to having played with Cam and Mikal, so I think I’m familiar with those guys. Versatility, the ability to play multiple positions. Can think quickly, execute and really shoot the ball.

“So those types of guys – I really like the speed of our second unit. I think if you look at Cam, Deuce and Landry, they complement each other really well and that’s why I like their perimeter game together.”
