Lane Kiffin posts CFP case for Ole Miss over Alabama

Lane Kiffin spent part of his Sunday fighting to get Ole Miss into the 12-team College Football Playoff.

And in doing so, the Rebels coach posited that his team should be included ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide, but Kalen DeBoer’s team had the advantage of being a brand. He tagged the CFP committee in a few posts.

“Of course Ole Miss should play Alabama in the playoffs, but Bama is the bigger brand and will most likely face Ole Miss,” the post ended.

The case for Ole Miss over Alabama is presented here.

Ulysses Bentley rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown and No. 15 Ole Miss beat rival Mississippi State 26-14 in the Egg Bowl on Friday, keeping its slim hope of the College Football Playoff alive.

Jaxson Dart completed 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown for the Rebels (9-3, 5-3 SEC).

The Rebels, who lost to Florida last week, are in conversation for one of the final CFP spots with South Carolina, which upset Clemson on Saturday, and Alabama, which beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday.

“First of all, I have a lot of respect for South Carolina,” Kiffin said Sunday, according to 247 Sports. “I think they are a really good team. Well coached, really good players. But if you just said South Carolina is invading us, why are we even playing games? If South Carolina skipped us and we played in the same conference with a very similar schedule but the same record. Normally you’d say, ‘What would happen if they played each other?’ Well, we did. We went to them and drove them away. I mean, it was a 24-point SEC road win, and we just give the ball away in the fourth quarter to get out of there.

“That shouldn’t even be a – if the committee even thinks about it, then what are you playing the games for?” Because that’s what everyone always says: “What if this team played (against each other), how would they behave?” beat?” That’s the tricky thing about comparing these different conferences. Well, we did it to them and it wasn’t even close. We could still play the game and they still might not have scored a touchdown.”
