Lay’s potato chips are called back in two countries after the “deadly” ingredient has been discovered

An urgent recall for lays potato chips was at the highest level to contain a potentially fatal ingredient.

The FDA showed that bags with 13 ounces layer classic potato chips that are distributed in Oregon and Washington could not contain declared milk.

Around 4.9 million Americans suffer from milk allergies and it is one of the most common food allergies in children.

The symptoms of milk allergy range from mild to heavy and can grab be grabs, vomiting, beehives and digestive problems.

In severe cases, the condition can also cause anaphylaxis, which is a life -threatening reaction that narrows the airways and can block breathing.

After peanuts and tree nuts, milk is the third most common food that causes anaphylaxis.

The FDA has updated the recall as ‘class I’ to which refers to A situation in which there is an appropriate probability that the use or exposure of a violation of violation causes serious adverse health consequences or deaths.

It is not clear why the FDA – which originally published the recall in mid -December – increased the classification to the highest level.

However, the officials find that “those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk carry out the risk of serious or life -threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product”.

Frito-Lay, which produces over 16 billion sacks of snacks annually, was originally made aware of the compromised product by a consumer.

The product contained in the recall was distributed to certain retail stores and e-commerce dealers in Oregon and Washington.

Consumers could have already bought these chips on November 3, 2024.

The recalled product is located in a flexible 13 -uncation bag with a “guaranteed fresh” date of February 11, 2025.

The manufacturing codes are 6462307XX or 6463307XX.

So far, no allergic reactions or illnesses have been reported in connection with this matter.

No other products, flavors, sizes or variety packages are called back from other laypersons.

Consumers who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk are warned to reject the chips immediately and not to eat them.

It is not the first time that lays were accidentally laced with milk.

In May 2023, the manufacturer Frito-Lay issued a recall of lays of classic potato chips, which were distributed in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

At the time, the company said that the non -declared milk ingredients from sour cream and onion potato chip aroma could have come that the dairy explains on the package.
