Leadership rivalry fuels murder of transgender leader Hasini

Nellore police have solved the murder of transgender leader Manikula Hasini, revealing that the crime stemmed from a bitter leadership rivalry within local Hijra communities. Superintendent of Police (SP) G. Krishna Kanth said long-standing disputes between Hasini and her rival Alekhya escalated into violence.

The investigation revealed that Alekhya and her associates conspired with Bhupati, a known rowdy, to murder Hasini, a prominent leader in south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and parts of Karnataka. The attack occurred on November 26 when Hasini was returning from a Mahalakshmi idol installation ceremony at Parlapalli village in Vidavaluru mandal. At around 10 p.m., her car was ambushed by assailants in two vehicles at the Tapathopu railway underpass. They blocked her path, attacked her with weapons and fatally injured her.
Following the incident, Kodavalur police led by Nellore Rural DSP G. Srinivasa Rao and CI A. Surendra Babu launched an investigation using advanced technology to track down the suspects. Twelve people were arrested on Sunday, including several with previous convictions. The SP said the killing was the result of ongoing leadership conflicts within the transgender communities. Police are continuing efforts to arrest the remaining suspects.
