The latest information on the Nintendo Switch 2or whatever Nintendo’s next console will be called, suggests it will launch in late spring for somewhere between $399 and $449. The original Switch console is over seven years old at this point and many fans are eagerly waiting for Nintendo to release the long-awaited successor console. The Switch 2 has been a long time coming, but we’re closer to its reveal than ever before.

Nintendo has confirmed the existence of the Switch 2, confirming that the new console will be backwards compatible with the original Switch and will take over the established Switch Online service. Nintendo has promised to unveil the device sometime in the next four months or so, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.

Alleged Nintendo Switch 2 accessory leak hints at much larger console

Newly surfaced listings for alleged Switch 2 accessories suggest that Nintendo’s next console may be significantly larger than its predecessor.

Since the Switch 2 hasn’t been officially revealed to the public yet, it’s really no surprise that fans don’t know how much the new console will cost or when it will go on sale. Leaker Samus Hunter has made some clarifications on this matter and provided a separate report on the console’s price and release plans. According to their information, the Switch 2 is scheduled for release in late spring 2025, which means it may be available in May or June 2025. The console is expected to be priced at either $399 or $449. Samus Hunter also noted that Nintendo still has a few Switch 1 games to announce, so the older console won’t be completely abandoned when the Switch 2 is released.

Rumored price and release window for Switch 2

  • $399.99 – $449.99
  • May/June release window

It goes without saying that fans should take these claims with a grain of salt, even though the claims here are far from absurd. The Switch OLED costs $349.99, so it would make sense if the Switch 2 was more expensive. However, $399.99 sounds a bit too optimistic. I think $449.99 is the more likely option for the Switch 2, unless a price cut is expected for the original Switch. A late spring 2025 release window doesn’t seem unreasonable either.

Of course, there are things that could throw a wrench into Nintendo’s plans and have a direct impact on the Switch 2’s release. For example, there has been speculation that Trump’s tariffs could impact the Switch 2, potentially making the console more expensive. Whatever the case, fans should know more by April 2025.
