Leander ISD school buses: District wants feedback on dangerous routes

The district wants to hear from families about their concerns about current trails within two miles of a campus.

LEANDER, Texas – Leander ISD is seeking feedback on its bus services.

The district is trying to figure out where it can provide bus service for students who live within two miles of a campus. Families are asked to share their concerns about current walking routes and this information is then used to plan the assessment of dangerous routes.

In Leander ISD, families who live closer than two miles to their assigned school fall into the Not Eligible for Transportation Zone, or NET Zone. The district said bus service will only be available to students in this zone if their route to school is deemed “hazardous.”

Each year, members of the district’s transportation team review the bus routes of families who use bus services and live within the NET zone. These members also evaluate the routes of families in the NETZone that have had significant opportunities, such as: B. New buildings or changes in road conditions.

Routes in the NET zone automatically qualify for bus traffic if they cross an arterial road or a motorway without controls (e.g. stop sign, pedestrian crossing, traffic lights or intersection guards); align along a road with a speed limit above 45 miles per hour; or cross a railway crossing. The district uses a matrix to evaluate routes and determine whether a student qualifies for busing.

The district currently has an online form for families to provide feedback on dangerous routes. The form closes on January 21st. Parents with students at different schools are asked to complete the form for each school.
