Lhyfe and Energypool are working together to harness the flexibility of electrolysers to balance the electricity grid

The partners contribute to grid stability in France by leveraging the flexibility of Lhyfe’s green hydrogen production sites. As part of the demand response service, the French electricity grid operator pays sites to temporarily reduce their electricity consumption during peak periods.

Lhyfe says its flexible electrolyzers “will be able to respond instantly to signals from the grid.” By providing demand management, the company’s energy consumption is reduced and the price of green hydrogen is reduced, while at the same time contributing to the energy transition by stabilizing the network.

By controlling demand, the network operator can avoid commissioning environmentally harmful or costly replacement power plants. The partners will also use the flexibility of the locations to sell into the secondary reserves market.

Energy Pool will manage demand response events for Lhyfe in the wholesale markets and “pave the path to value creation” in the secondary reserve market. The five-year collaboration between the two companies, starting in 2025, covers the Buléon, Bessières and Le Cheylas sites, which together have a total capacity of 30 MW.

Lhyfe began construction of its green hydrogen production facility in Le Cheylas in October. Initially, a capacity of 5 MW was planned with a production of up to 2 t/day, but from the start planned for early 2026 there will be a production capacity of up to 4 t/day. Lhyfe said this would “meet the demand of particularly dynamic companies”. local market”.
